The New Jersey
In recent years, versatile jersey tops and dresses have become ubiquitous in women’s wardrobes, and there’s a good chance your Personal Shop features at least a few jersey basics. Though these marvelous multitaskers by no means reflect a brand-new trend, this year designers have taken jersey fashions to the next level, with an eye towards details that flatter, dressed-up silhouettes combining comfort with polish and growing demand for “green” materials.
Recessionistas love jersey dresses in solid hues because they’re endlessly wearable—a style finished with cascading ruffles or delicately draped tiers looks as perfect with everyday leggings and flats as it does with your prized stilettos. And a jersey dress designed with flirty details requires little in the way of accessories (even for special occasions), an especially appealing attribute if you’re a “throw it on and go” kind of gal.
Women have also embraced jersey for its comfort, and fortunately, environmentally conscious manufacturing has only enhanced this aspect of its allure. Eco-friendlier fabrics such as modal (made from beech trees) and organic cotton offer indulgently soft texture with graceful movement.
Rachel Pally’s Claudette Tunic-Dress makes a coveted companion to an E with a mini-length hem that lets her flaunt her lovely legs and a ruffle reminiscent of a waterfall that stylishly skims the body’s center. Recommended for M, S, H and A shapes as well, this uniquely crafted piece caresses curves in a silky soft modal blend.
